The five-day program held in Abuja and online marked World Tourism Day 2025 with industry-focused courses and professional certifications.

In commemoration of World Tourism Day 2025, TBS Academy successfully hosted the 12th edition of its Free Aviation, Tourism & Hospitality Empowerment Training, a flagship capacity-building program that continues to shape the future of young professionals across Nigeria and beyond.

Held from September 22nd – 26th, 2025, the training brought together participants both physically in Abuja and virtually via Zoom, making it one of the most inclusive and impactful editions yet.

A Vision for Empowerment

The training was designed to provide participants with essential knowledge and practical insights in three interconnected industries: Aviation, Tourism, and Hospitality. These sectors remain central to global mobility, cultural exchange, and economic development, and TBS Academy remains committed to equipping individuals with the right skills to thrive.

By offering the training completely free of charge, TBS Academy reaffirmed its mission of building capacity and empowering minds, breaking financial barriers that often limit access to professional development.

Courses that Inspire Growth

Participants had the opportunity to explore a range of beginner-friendly yet career-defining courses across the three sectors:

✈ Aviation Courses

Each session was delivered with a blend of industry expertise, practical examples, and interactive discussions, ensuring participants left with not just knowledge but also confidence to take the next step in their careers.

A Diverse Community of Learners

From young students aspiring to enter aviation, to tourism enthusiasts looking to start travel businesses, and hospitality practitioners eager to improve service standards, the training welcomed participants from all walks of life.

The hybrid format allowed individuals from different parts of Nigeria—and even across borders—to benefit from the sessions, showcasing the power of technology in driving inclusive education.

Certificates & Continuous Learning

While the training itself was free, participants had the opportunity to obtain professional certificates at an affordable fee per course. These certificates not only validate the learning experience but also serve as stepping stones for professional growth and employability.

TBS Academy also announced plans for advanced-level trainings in Aviation, Tourism, and Hospitality, giving participants a pathway to continue their learning journey and specialize further.

The Bigger Picture: World Tourism Day 2025

This edition of the training was particularly special as it aligned with the global celebration of World Tourism Day, a time dedicated to recognizing the power of tourism in fostering cultural exchange, economic growth, and sustainable development.

By empowering participants with relevant knowledge, TBS Academy played its part in promoting sustainable practices and excellence in service delivery within the aviation, tourism, and hospitality industries.

YTDONigeria National and FCT Zone holds Post 2022 World Tourism Day Lecture for FCT secondary schools students on Tuesday, 1st November, 2022 at the China Cultural Centre in Abuja.

Endorsed by the FCT Secondary Education Board (FCTSEB) for 10 selected secondary schools (6 public and 4 private schools) as the pilot event and exercise for the education of the youths in schools on tourism and culture and for the formation of YTDONigeria Tourism Club in FCT public and private schools.

The event which adopts the World Tourism Day 2022 theme “RETHINKING TOURISM” with a complementary topic “Exposing the Youths to Tourism and Cultural Skills for Self Employment” is targeted at involving the youths in the global campaign to revive the sector after the COVID-19 pandemic and to encourage them to consciously embrace the many related skills and professions for the sustainability of the sector.

The National President, YTDO Nigeria, Comrade Okon Emmanuel, speaking about the development remarked that, “Young people are the future of any sector and the peak of productivity and they need to be provided with necessary information to help them obtain critical skills and a lifetime experience for their professional life. The sector offers many opportunities for both skilled and unskilled youths and is ideal for meaningful career, employment and good remuneration”, he concluded.

In his own remarks, the YTDO FCT Zonal Coordinator, Amb. (Capt.) Emmanuel Great said, “this event heralds a milestone moment since my inauguration as the FCT Zonal Coordinator for YTDO. We are taking the campaign to the Secondary Schools where it really matters. There is no better way to ensure a sustainable future for tourism in Nigeria, than to target the upcoming NextGens for a deliberate and intentional capacity building program like this”. He further stated that the YTDO FCT Zone is very proud of the newly formed partnership with the FCT Secondary Education Board, a feat which the organization will soon duplicate in all the States across Nigeria.

The lecture is supported by the China Embassy through the China Cultural Centre with other notable industry stakeholders; and it is hoped that the forthcoming and subsequent formation of YTDONigeria platforms at the school level will be supported by the relevant agencies such as National Institute of Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR), National Council for Art and Culture (NCAC) and the National Troupe of Nigeria (NTN), Institute for Tourism Professionals of Nigeria (NTN) which one of the mandates includes youths education on tourism and culture.
